Portimonense is a Portuguese soccer club based in Portimão, Algarve. Founded in 1914, the club has a rich history in Portuguese football. They have primarily competed in the lower divisions of Portuguese football, but have had several stints in the top-flight Primeira Liga. Portimonense's major accomplishment came in the 1984-1985 season when they finished as runners-up in the Primeira Liga, their highest ever league position. This achievement allowed them to participate in the UEFA Cup the following season. The club's home venue is the Estádio Municipal de Portimão, which has a seating capacity of around 9,544 spectators. Portimonense is commonly known as "Os Alvinegros," which translates to "The White and Blacks." This nickname is derived from the club's traditional white and black striped kit. An interesting fact about Portimonense is that they have a strong youth academy, which has produced several talented players who have gone on to play for top clubs in Portugal and abroad.
