Competition Overview

The Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, also known as Championnat National de Première Division, is the top-tier football league in Algeria. It was established in 1962, the same year Algeria gained independence from France. The league consists of 16 teams competing for the title. ES Sétif and JS Kabylie are the most successful clubs in the league's history, with both teams winning the championship multiple times. An interesting fact is that JS Kabylie won the African Cup of Champions Clubs (now CAF Champions League) twice in the 1980s, becoming the first Algerian club to achieve this feat.
