Competition Overview

The Cypriot First Division, established in 1934, is the top professional football league in Cyprus. It has a rich history, with the league being initially organized by the Cyprus Football Association. Over the years, several teams have enjoyed success, but APOEL FC and Omonia Nicosia have been the most dominant, winning the league title numerous times. The competition structure consists of 14 teams, with each team playing against each other twice in a season. An interesting fact is that APOEL FC became the first Cypriot team to reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in the 2011-2012 season.
