Liga Portugal 2, also known as the Segunda Liga, is the second-tier professional soccer league in Portugal. It was established in 1990 and is organized by the Portuguese Football Federation. The league consists of 18 teams competing for promotion to the top-flight Primeira Liga. Historically, FC Porto B and Benfica B have been the most successful teams in Liga Portugal 2, with multiple promotions to the Primeira Liga. An interesting fact is that the league used to have 20 teams until the 2019-2020 season when it was reduced to 18 teams to improve competitiveness.
