Competition Overview
The Korean K League 1, established in 1983, is the top professional football league in South Korea. It has a rich history, with the league being one of the first professional football competitions in Asia. The league consists of 12 teams, each competing in a home-and-away format, resulting in a total of 38 matches per season. The most successful teams in the league's history are Seongnam FC and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, both having won the league title multiple times. An interesting fact about the K League 1 is that it introduced the world's first video assistant referee (VAR) system in 2013.
