Competition Overview

The Spanish Segunda Division, also known as La Liga 2, is the second-tier professional soccer league in Spain. It was established in 1929, the same year as the top-flight La Liga. Over the years, the Segunda Division has been a breeding ground for talented players and has seen many clubs rise to prominence. Notable teams such as Real Betis, Sporting Gijon, and Real Zaragoza have enjoyed success in both the Segunda Division and La Liga. The league consists of 22 teams, and the top two teams are promoted to La Liga at the end of the season. Interestingly, the Segunda Division has a playoff system to determine the third promotion spot, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.
