Competition Overview
The Ukrainian Premier League, founded in 1991, is the top professional football league in Ukraine. It emerged after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, with Ukraine gaining independence. The league consists of 12 teams, each competing in a home-and-away format. Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk have been the most successful teams in the league's history, dominating the competition with numerous titles. An interesting fact is that Shakhtar Donetsk, due to the ongoing conflict in Eastern Ukraine, has been playing their home matches in the city of Kharkiv since 2014.
