Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club, commonly known as Inverness, is a professional soccer club based in Inverness, Scotland. The club was formed in 1994 through a merger between Inverness Thistle and Caledonian, two local teams. Inverness plays its home matches at the Caledonian Stadium, which has a seating capacity of around 7,900. The club's nickname is "Caley Thistle," derived from the combination of the two merged teams' names. Inverness has had a relatively short but successful history. The club's major accomplishments include winning the Scottish Cup in the 2014-2015 season, which was their first major trophy. They also won the Scottish First Division (now known as the Scottish Championship) twice, in the 2003-2004 and 2009-2010 seasons, earning promotion to the Scottish Premiership. Inverness has also had several notable runs in European competitions, reaching the UEFA Cup (now Europa League) playoffs in the 2015-2016 season.
