Maghrib Association Tetouan, commonly known as MAT, is a Moroccan football club based in Tetouan. Founded in 1912, it is one of the oldest clubs in the country. The team plays its home matches at the Saniat Rmel Stadium, which has a capacity of around 15,000 spectators. Over the years, MAT has had a relatively successful history. They have won the Moroccan Throne Cup twice, in 1969 and 2014, and have been runners-up on three occasions. In addition, the club has achieved promotion to the Moroccan top-flight league, the Botola Pro, multiple times. MAT is often referred to as "The Lions of the Atlas," a nickname that reflects the club's strong connection to the Atlas Mountains, which are located near Tetouan. This nickname also pays homage to the national team of Morocco, which is known as the "Atlas Lions." An interesting fact about MAT is that they have a strong local fan base, with passionate supporters who create an electric atmosphere during home matches. The club's rich history and loyal fan following make them a respected and formidable force in Moroccan football.
