New York City FC is a professional soccer club based in New York City, United States. The club was founded in 2013 and began competing in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2015. They play their home matches at Yankee Stadium, which is also the home of the New York Yankees baseball team. The club is owned by City Football Group, which also owns Manchester City FC in England. Despite being a relatively young club, New York City FC has had some notable accomplishments. In 2019, they won the Eastern Conference regular season title, finishing at the top of the standings. However, they have yet to win the MLS Cup, which is the ultimate goal for every team in the league. The club is commonly referred to as NYCFC or simply City. The nickname "City" is a nod to their ownership connection with Manchester City FC.
