Boavista FC, based in Porto, Portugal, is a historic soccer club with a rich history. Founded in 1903, the club has established itself as one of the most successful in Portuguese football. Boavista FC has won the Primeira Liga, the top division in Portuguese football, once in the 2000-2001 season. They have also achieved success in domestic cup competitions, winning the Taca de Portugal twice and the Taca da Liga once. The club's home venue is the Estadio do Bessa, which has a capacity of around 28,000 spectators. Boavista FC is known as "Os Axadrezados," which translates to "The Chessmen," due to their distinctive black and white striped kit. An interesting fact is that Boavista FC was the first Portuguese club to reach the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in the 1991-1992 season.
